Safety comes first
During 2014, we experienced recall scandals involving Infinity, Olsent and Ecables. It seems it has to be spelt out even if it should be self-evident: poor quality cables can kill.
It’s common knowledge that the Australian environment can be harsher than other parts of the world. So it would make sense to choose cables that are manufactured and tested to Australian standards. Yet it seems that businesses are more concerned with their bottom line than the safety of their customers, causing a myriad of problems later down the track.
Part of the problem lies with the fact that the industry is self-regulated meaning there are no requirements for industry verification and approval that products sold in the local market actually comply with Australian Standards.
A further problem lies in the fact that even defective cables can ‘look’ acceptable yet prove to be quite dangerous when connected to an electrical network.
These problems might be explanations to why poor quality cables are still being installed in Australia – but there are certainly no excuses for playing with people’s lives.
At Prysmian we hold quality and compliance as one of our cornerstones. We take this issue very seriously and fully support Australian Cablemakers Association, ACA, in their efforts of lobbying regulatory bodies to improve customer protection and safety.
Why we take it so seriously becomes obvious knowing that we’re Aussies, just like you. It matters to us if a cable can handle fire in a housing estate in Perth, or that miners at a colliery in Queensland can be sure the exit signs continue to shine during an emergency or that Aussies in general can rest assure the power cables will provide us the electricity we need without interruptions.
We are Australia’s leading cable manufacturer and by implementing our stringent safety tests, we are able to design safe and reliable cables that can be trusted.
That is why we can stand behind all of our cable products with complete confidence.
And so can you.
