In 2015 the Prysmian Group was awarded nbnTM ’s prestigious “Supplier of the year”. This achievement was followed by the “Highly Commended – We Deliver” award in 2016.
Prysmian has produced and supplied the nbnTM national network with a wide range of optical ribbon and multi-fibre cables for telecommunications, including termite resistant, rodent-proof and high-strength cables and has recently won an exclusive supply contract for the entire nbnTM copper cable requirement.
“We are particularly proud of this award as the cables we make for nbnTM are made here in Australia in the Sydney suburb of Dee Why.”, said Danny Doyle, Prysmian Commercial Manager Telecom – Australia and New Zealand. “This award confirms that our long-term strategy to manufacture locally is a winner.”
It was our responsiveness to the ramp-up in 2014, our continuous support in research and development and the close working connection between our Production and Commercial teams that allowed us to react quickly to the increasing rollout demands by nbnTM. And this has led to a renewed commitment of the Group in the telecommunications field in Australia.
The Group is one of the world leader in fibre-optic cables for telecommunications networks. It produces about 30 million km of optical fibre annually in the 5 world production plants (Italy, France, The Netherlands, USA and Brazil).
The Group is committed in helping the development of the Next Generation Networks (NGNs). These networks are destined to become the infrastructure carrying the entire socio-economic system, as all services to citizens (voice, internet, email, video) will be carried through a single transport network, in the home, in the office and in mobility and no longer with each one being served by a specific infrastructure.
The installation of optical fibres in communication networks is at present about 300 million km of fibre annually, compared with 95 million in 2006, showing it to be one of the fastest-growing sectors in the entire industry.
